Explore the wild and rugged beauty of Iceland while helping to preserve its unique ecosystems. Although blessed with dramatic fjords, steaming thermal pools, and stunning waterfalls, Iceland has become deforested through human land use, volcanic activity, and other factors. You will work alongside Icelandic youth, planting trees to prevent soil erosion.
Iceland's summer weather is similar to fall in New England. That means a range of moderate temperatures with a high around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 40. Dress in layers and make sure to bring rain gear. The World Horizons group will live together in a school centrally located in the modern city of Reykjavik.
Be prepared to work hard and have lots of fun! At the end of your stay, you will embark on a 3-day pony trek through the interior, camping, living in cabins, and seeing sites only accessible on horseback. Bring your camera and lots of film as the land and views are spectacular!
